STATEMENT OF INTENT
The NAC is committed to the principle of continuing professional development and life-long learning for all its members. We intend to make the fullest use of these pages to provide members with up-to-date and accurate information on all matters educational. Any suggestions for improvement are most welcome.
In June 2007 the City and Guilds Diploma in Cervical Cytology is to be launched, and the demands on cytology trainees, laboratory training officers and training centre managers will be great. Resources for trainees and training providers will be placed on these pages to help ensure a smooth and relatively pain-free transition to the new qualification. Slideshows, image galleries, mock assignments, case studies and useful web links are just a few examples of what you can expect to find here in due course.
The requirement by the Health Professions Council and ultimately by the Voluntary Registration Council for registrants to provide evidence of reflective practice is an opportunity for the NAC to consolidate its CEC scheme and provide its members with the tools required to genuinely demonstrate that they are able to put into practice what they have learned. Look out for a modernised NAC CEC scheme in the near future.
The scope of practice of cytologists is likely to change dramatically in the years ahead. Whatever direction cytology takes, the NAC is determined to play its part in ensuring that its members expand and improve their knowledge and skills accordingly. Molecular cytology, machine-assisted cytology and non-gynaecological cytology are just a few examples of what you might find on these pages as our future unfolds.
